Student Innovators Pioneering Sustainable and Inclusive Solutions


      In a rapidly evolving world where innovation drives progress, it's inspiring to see young minds stepping up to create impactful solutions that address pressing challenges. The 2024 Invent Oregon competition highlighted several groundbreaking projects that are making strides in sustainability, inclusivity, and environmental responsibility.


      Receiving the Visionary Award for their promising product were Adama Tourea and Jordan Harris-Toovy of Second Life Solar. They developed a cost-effective fault detection technology designed to monitor the lifespan of solar panels. Their innovative solution identifies repair opportunities, extending the life of solar panels and significantly reducing waste. This advancement not only makes solar energy more sustainable but also enhances the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of solar power systems. For their exceptional work, they took home the Visionary Award and $2,500 in prizes.



Hannah Oran, Colette Wolf, and Chone Poe of Arachne Intimates are redefining the lingerie industry with their accessible lingerie line. Their products are designed specifically for users and partners with limited mobility, combining functionality with elegance. By prioritizing ease of use without sacrificing style, Arachne Intimates ensures that everyone can enjoy comfortable and beautiful lingerie, enhancing independence and confidence for individuals with mobility challenges.





Michael Van Sant and Kyle Klein are tackling environmental issues with their EarthGuard Filters. They developed biodegradable hemp filters for cigarettes, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional filters. These innovative filters decompose naturally, reducing pollution and the environmental impact of cigarette waste. EarthGuard Filters' solution represents a significant advancement toward more sustainable smoking practices, contributing to a healthier planet for future generations.




The 2024 Invent Oregon competition showcased the remarkable potential of student innovators to create solutions that address real-world problems with creativity and practicality.
